The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India offers attractive
fellowship and contingency grants in Basic Science, Engineering and Medicine.
Selection to the programme is competitive and takes into account academic
excellence and demonstrated interests in pursuing research. The selection is
open to all Indian Nationals studying in India. Selection procedures are
different for Basic sciences, Engineering and Medicine. All of them, however,
include a national level interview for final selection.
Eligibility and Fellowships:
(1)Basic Sciences: (up to 120 Fellowships)
Stream SA:
Students completing X Standard. Having a minimum aggregate of
75% marks in Science subjects in X Standard Board Examination or equivalent and
choosing Science subject at plus 2 level.
Stream SB:
Students completing XII Standard and
joining a Science undergraduate programme. Having a minimum aggregate of 75%
marks in Science subjects in XII Standard Board Examination or equivalent and
intending to pursue an undergraduate B.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. programme in
Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics/Statistics or Biological Sciences or B.Math.,
B.Stat.
Stream SC:
Students completing 1st year Science Undergraduate programme.
Having a minimum aggregate of 75% marks in Science subjects in XII Std. Board
exam and enrolled in B.Sc., or Integrated M.Sc. in Chemistry, Physics, Maths/
Statistics or Biological Sciences with one of these subjects as a major subject
or with all Science subjects as majors having equal weightage or B.Math/B.Stat.
Olympiad:
Students who represents India in the
International Olympiad in Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Biology in the year of
admission will automatically qualify for the fellowship provided they complete
their X standard Board examination in the year of admission and pursue studies
in Science subjects. Rs. 2000/- p.m. and an annual contingency grants of Rs.
4000/- p.a. during XI and XII standards. Rs. 3000/- p.m. and an annual
contingency of Rs. 6000/- after XII standards till completion of M.Sc.
(2) Engineering: (up to 25 Fellowships)
Stream SA:
Students completing XII Standard and
joining 1st year B.E/B.Tech/ B.Arch.: Having a minimum aggregate of 75% marks in
Science subjects in XII Standard Board Examination, or and joining 1st year B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch.
Stream EB:
Students entering II year B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch:
Having a minimum aggregate of 75% marks in Science subjects in XII Standard
Board Examination and having 1st class or equivalent in the first year
examination of B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Arch.
Rs.3000 p.m and an annual contingency grant of Rs. 6000 p.a. till completion of
M.E/M.Tech/M.Arch.
(3) Medicine: (up to 25 Fellowships)
Stream MA:
Students completing their first
Professional examination by October. Having a minimum aggregate of 75% marks in
Science subjects in XII Standard Board Examination or equivalent and enrolled in
MBBS programme, and completing first professional examination between 1st
November and 1st September of the year of admission/enrolment.
Rs.3000pm and an annual contingency grant of Rs.6000 till completion of MBBS.
Selection:
Selection to the programme is

Application Forms:
Each stream has a
different application form. Students who wish to apply for the Fellowship in
both Basic Sciences and Engineering must submit separate requisitions. Each
requisition must clearly indicate the stream applied for and be accompanied by a
DD of requisite amount drawn in favour of SID A/c KVPY payable at Bangalore
along with two self addressed labels to:
